South African crime fiction thriller: Dive into a riveting detective saga where danger lurks around every corner of Stellenbosch. Acclaimed as “the supremo of South African crime-writing fiction” by Peter James, this novel immediately throws you into a world where gritty police work meets chilling mystery.

Benny Griessel and Vaughn Cupido, once part of the elite HAWKS, now find themselves facing routine cases in a leafy university town—until a student is found dead on a mountain trail. With the stakes rising, the detectives must unravel a stubborn mystery that hints at dark secrets lurking beneath the surface.

Meanwhile, in the northern reaches of South Africa, a captivating wildlife guide is recruited by special forces soldiers to serve as a honeytrap in a dangerous multi-million-dollar heist that spirals tragically out of control. Back in Stellenbosch, the discovery of a local businessman’s murder—suffocated by a bizarre spray of fast-action filler foam—reveals that even professional hits carry a cryptic message.

As the investigation deepens, it becomes clear that the culprits may be hiding in plain sight—in government, within the police force, and among the criminals roaming the streets. With time ticking and personal stakes mounting (Alexa has even fixed the wedding date), Benny’s struggle to maintain his cool and sobriety transforms this into a deadly race against time.

Experience the relentless tension and intricate plotting of this South African crime fiction thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last page.

Another excellent book by Deon Meyer. Having read the Afrikaans original first there were no great surprises. However, I enjoyed it even more the second time around. I hope it is not a spoiler to say that do not expect to find out what happened to Sandra Steenberg in the cliff hanger finale of Dark Flood. The only problem with Deon Meyer's novels is the length of time one has to wait until the next one.

Deon Meyer lives near Cape Town in South Africa. His big passions are mountain biking, music, reading, cooking and rugby. In January 2008 he retired from his day job as a consultant on brand strategy for BMW Motorrad, and is now a full time author. Deon Meyer's books have attracted worldwide critical acclaim and a growing international fanbase. Originally written in Afrikaans, they have now been translated into twenty-eight languages. THIRTEEN HOURS was shortlisted for the CWA International Dagger and won the Boeke Prize in South Africa - the first time in the prize's 16 year history that a South African book has won. His novels have also won literary prizes in the USA, France, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands, and the film rights to seven of his novels have been optioned or sold. Deon has also written two television series, and several screenplays for movies. In 2013 he directed one of his original scripts for the feature film The Last Tango.
