Dit is inderwaarheid ’n redelik ontnugterende boek om te lees. Dit dek ’n wye verskeidenheid van gevalle wat al op haar ondersoektafel beland het. Sonder om sentimenteel te wees of die verskrikking van onnatuurlike dood af te maak, kyk die leser as’t ware deur die bril van die forensiese patoloog na getuienis wat die oorsaak van sterftes blootlê.
Die skrywer onderskryf die woorde van Lois McMaster Bujold: ‘The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is the duty of the living to do so for them.’ In die outobiografiese eerste hoofstuk, erken die skrywer dat sy reeds op baie jong ouderdom verklaar het dat sy ’n dokter wil word en ’n boek wil skryf. Hierdie jong drome het inderwaarheid vir haar ’n werklikheid geword toe sy Outopsie geskryf het, eers in Engels, en toe in Afrikaans vertaal deur Linde Dietrich. Lesers mag ook bekend wees met die televisiereeks, Outopsie, hoewel ek dit nie gesien het nie.

Hooked from the prologue

As someone who needs to be captured by a story in the first 5 min or I put it down, THIS story had me hooked from the get go of the prologue!!! The care and thought the author poured into each character can be seen on every page. A truly gRIPping tale that challenges your heart and mind into deeper thinking, inward reflection and true acknowledgement that everyone has a choice to make.
Will definitely be keeping an eager eye out on more work from this amazing author!
