In December 2010, in Port Elizabeth, Andy Kawa was abducted, attacked and raped for 15 hours at Kings Beach. Her attackers were never caught. She successfully sued the police for failing to properly investigate her attack. In November 2018, Port Elizabeth Judge Sarah Sephton found police officers were 'grossly negligent' in the performance of their duties with regards to her case both in the search for her and subsequent investigation. The police appealed the judgement.
For Kawa, this is not just a fight for herself, but a fight for all SA women. She has said that many cases are rejected by the courts because of poor, or a lack of, evidence. With the scourge of femicide in South Africa, this is simply unacceptable. Accountability is missing in the chain of justice itself. This brave and vulnerable memoir shows how this successful businesswoman's life was shattered by the brutal attack on her and how the police have thwarted her quest for justice for a decade.
