At the age of 18 Mark Pilgrim was diagnosed with stage 4 testicular cancer. Having come from living in a trailer to just getting a bursary at university, the disease came at the high point in his life and it all came crashing down. Beyond the Baldness is a story of overcoming obstacles. About taking what life throws at you and turning them into opportunities. It¿s a book for anyone that wants to find the inspiration to follow their dream, whether it be in their personal life (like playing a piano or flying a plane) to the workplace (like changing jobs). Life starts with your earliest memory. I remember my mum chasing me around a coffee table when I could only crawl around on all fours. I remember the simple life of growing up in a trailer (yes, the type in Kansas that get destroyed by tornadoes, except in England we proudly called them Mobile Homes). I remember shooting my mum with a pellet gun and her chasing me around the garden with a kettle cord. How we laughed (albeit only a few weeks later). I remember falling in love, owning my first car (which had a piece of string dangling out of the window and stretching to my Beetle¿s engine, which I would yank on as a makeshift accelerator cable). I remember the moment I found out that I was going to be on radio, a dream I had had since a little boy. I remember being the dedicated bachelor boywho vowed never to get married, until I met Nicole who melted my heart in an instant. I remember the moment my daughter was born. I think I cried more than my wife did. There are of course things I sometimes wish not to remember. The moment my mum burst into tears, struggling to tell her 18 year old son that he had stage 4 testicular cancer which had spread through his body. The operation and months of chemo- therapy. The day my mum died and I became an instant father to my 8 year old brother. The day the pain in my chest became unbearable and my heart decided to quit on me. Life is made of memories, both good and bad. This is my life.
