“Pop wonder skielik hoekom ’n mens gewig verloor as jou hart breek? Jou maag is mos onskuldig in die hele gedoente?” (p.107) Maar dit was nie bloot uitmergelend nie, daar was skeute humor wat mens laat asem skep. Daar was “skok en wanhoop op sy gesig toe sy vanoggend hier ingestap het” (p.86) en “teenoor haar is Pop s’n (haar selfvertroue) so laag, sy kan ’n kite onder ’n mat vlieg.” (p.63)
I finished Pillow Talk in just two days because it was impossible to put down. The story is both intriguing and relatable, capturing the realities of family expectations, generational conflict, and the complexities of love.
As an Indian reader, the cultural authenticity stood out to me. The themes of breaking generational cycles and balancing family duty with personal happiness are universal and will resonate strongly with many readers. The characters were vividly described, and I found myself fully invested in Shona and Sen’s journey—especially their conflicts and eventual resolution.
Overall, Pillow Talk is an easy yet meaningful read with both emotional depth and broad appeal. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you long after the last page.
Oh my gosh! Where do I start! On behalf of all brown women in SA, thank you to the author, we needed this book!
It’s so relatable! I love how real the plot is and how relatable the settings were. The spice is written very tastefully as well!
The author captured the essence of what we deal with in our families, romantically, professionally and beyond. I can’t wait for the next book!
