      Ian Beck was born in Hove on the Sussex coast and attended Saturday painting classes at the nearby Brighton College of Art. His tutors included Raymond Briggs and John Vernon Lord. He has been involved in many aspects of illustration, and, while working in the record industry, painted the cover of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Ian is probably best known for his bestselling picture books, four of which have been shortlisted for the Best Books for Babies Award. His picture book Lost in the Snow is about to be made into a TV film for Christmas 2001. Ian lives with his wife and three children in Richmond and near Bridport.
