This text provides a comparative study of relationships between language and ethnic identity in key regions of historical and contemporary ethnic conflict in Europe and Eurasia. The results of original research and sources, which have rarely, if at all, appeared in English are used to explore transnational and transcultural patterns across the area of study within a thematic framework. Points of reference for further comparative work in other parts of the globe are also indicated.
