Rock Song Index

The Rock Song Index, Second Edition, is a new version of a well-received index to the classic songs of the rock canon, from the late '40s through the end of the 20th century. The study of the history of rock music has exploded over the last decade; all college music departments offer a basic rock-history course, covering the classic artists and their songs.

"The selection carefully reflects a wide range of the rock medium, from doo-wop and rockabilly to hip hop, grunge, and alternative... Whether for answering questions on music trivia or for developing a play list for an iPod, this guide will provide any rock fan with plenty of satisfaction." -- Lawrence Looks at Books, Gale Reference Reviews"Valuable for its inclusion of some of the genre's most important songs... This would be a handy reference source for anyone interested in rock music history... Ideally suited for college, public, and high-school libraries... Libraries in which the first edition was well used will certainly want to update." -- Booklist/RBB"Pollock has dramatically overhauled his earlier edition... Pollock's thoughtful selection and knowledgeable comments should engage serious students of rock... Recommended. Large popular music collections." -- Choice"Complementing Billboard's American Rock 'n' Roll inReview (1997) and The Rock and Roll Reader's Guide (1997), this would be a handy reference source for anyone interested in rock music history and is ideally suited for college, public, and high-school libraries. Libraries in which the first edition was well used will certainly want to update." -- Diane Kirby, Booklist "Recommended. Large popular music collections serving lower-level undergraduates and general readers." -- W. M. Gargan , Brooklyn College, CUNY, Choice"What Pollock has to offer is his understanding of connections, and this would be displayed much more effectively if he picked his top 250 or 500 rock songs and wrote a more detailed discussion of each." -- American Reference Books Annual
