Amy Lawless is a brazen poet with an eye for the absurd and the darkly comic. Her work lies on the border of that which makes us laugh and that which frightens us. Lawless' poems confront the basic human emotion of isolation with a skewed, flippant perspective that is callous to the tired sentiment of loneliness. This is where the awesome courage of her poems lies. But these poems are first and foremost entertaining. This rarity in modern poetry is collected here in this fabulous debut.
