The text presents advances in the field of thermal claddings for protection against erosion, corrosion, and wear in hydraulic turbines, automobiles, agricultural equipment, power plant, chemical industries, and jet engines. It further discusses different cladding techniques such as electron beam, oxy-fuel, arc welding processes, and microwave hybrid heating. It explains the mechanism for failure of materials and cladding and emphasizes the protection mechanism. This book:·Discusses the design and simulation of thermal claddings and the use of algorithms to predict the process parameters and performance of developed clads using artificial intelligence and machine learning.·Presents the tribological behaviour of novel wear-resistant thermal claddings for the components used in construction, mining, drilling, and hydropower plant. ·Showcases high-temperature oxidation, corrosion, and erosion-resistant thermal claddings for power plants, the automotive sector, and jet engines.·Highlights the application of the thermal cladding process in remelting the existing surface to enhance the surface properties. ·Examines post-heat treatment procedures on thermal claddings for improving the microstructure and tribological properties. The text is primarily written for senior undergraduate, graduate students, and academic researchers in the fields of mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and production engineering.

Dr. Lalit Thakur is a faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, India. He has obtained his M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) Roorkee, India. For the last 13 years, he is continuously exploring new possibilities in the field of Welding Engineering and Thermal Spray Technology. His current research areas are thermal spray coatings and TIG weld claddings for wear, corrosion, bio-medical applications, ferromagnetic lubricants, advanced composite development by powder metallurgy, stir casting, and friction stir processing. He has authored more than 60 research articles in various International Journals (SCI/Scopus), Conferences, and Edited Books of reputed publishers such as Applied Surface Science, Surface and Coatings Technology, Surface Engineering, Surface Topography, Tribology Transactions, Wear, JMEP, JMST, Materials Today Communications, Engineering Failure Analysis, Materials Research Express, Surface Review & Letters, CRC Press, Springer Nature, IntechOpen, etc. Moreover, he is a reviewer of most of the reputed journals related to Materials Science, Surface Engineering, and Coatings Technology. He has recently published a book titled “Thermal Spray Coatings” under CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group. He is also a Life-member of the Institution of Engineers India (IEI) and Indian Structural Integrity Society (INSIS). He has published two patents in the field of thermal spray coatings and friction stir processing. He has guided many M.Tech. and Ph.D. scholars in emerging areas of Thermal spraying, Advanced Manufacturing, and Welding Technology.Dr. Jasbir Singh is an Assistant Professor at Gurukula Kangri University, Haridwar-India. He has received his M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra-India. His area of research is thermal weld cladding especially for the development of new materials and claddings to enhance the service life of engineering equipment that are exposed to extreme wear conditions. He has contributed extensively in weld claddings in repute journals which include Surface coatings and Technology, International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials and Surface Engineering.
