Three Water Drop Brothers

Graphically gorgeous, with sweetness and flair, this is a book to get any kid hooked on the wonders of the water cycle!  A long, long time ago, when the earth was extremely hot, a huge amount of vapor was released, creating clouds. As the clouds got bigger and heavier, it started to rain. Three of those raindrops were brothers who came down to cool the hot earth and traveled, as water does, to every corner of the earth, including apartment building pipes and muddy rivers. Written by a scientist, this is a great book for all curious children and budding young explorers.

“In elegant yet straightforward prose, biologist Lee follows the three water drop brothers, who are personified with simple, finely drawn features. They show how water affects weather (cloud formation, snowflakes, and more) through different eras, from dinosaurs to the Ice Age; how water weathers rock, forms underground caves, and joins rivers and other bodies of water; and how water travels through life forms, including cows and humans. Bologna Ragazzi Award winner Yoon contributes boldly colored art, adding dimension with distinctive cut shapes and myriad patterns. A buoyant introduction to water’s far-reaching influence.” ―Publishers Weekly“Three personified drops of water demonstrate ways in which water moves on our planet… This Korean import, with its naïve drawings and patterned, velvety textures, will delight young readers as they follow the path of each water droplet. The text possesses a charming and childlike plainspokenness: ‘A long, long time ago, planet Earth was born. Planet Earth was very, very hot.’ And the three simply shaped dots with their pleasant, smiling faces will endear themselves to readers. An adventure both entertaining and informative.” ―Kirkus Reviews"The Three Water Drop Brothers, a charming, surprisingly complete look at the history and science of the water cycle for young readers aged 4-9.  Using simple, direct language and boldly colored block-cut illustrations, the award-winning team of Lee Eun-Hee and Yun Mi-Sook depict the story of three drops of water—the three brothers of the title—in a manner reminiscent of a traditional fable... Via these three anthropomorphic drops, The Three Water Drop Brothers skillfully describes the water cycle in a way that the youngest reader will understand and adults will equally enjoy. And who knows? The book is so enticing that budding scientists may arise from amongst its readers—creating another kind of cycle!" ―Nanette McGuiness, World Kid Lit
