This book discusses multiple aspects of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, investigating their critical role in addressing the environmental and economic challenges associated with excess carbon dioxide emissions. It not only highlights CCS as a viable long-term solution but also emphasizes its significance in the broader framework of sustainable energy development. The authors analyze different CCS techniques, economic implications, and regulatory frameworks, in order to provide a thorough understanding of how CCS can shape a low-carbon future.

Dr. Ebrahim Fathi is an esteemed associate professor in the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at West Virginia University. He earned a Ph.D. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Oklahoma University in 2010, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship until 2012. My expertise in energy sustainability is broad and interdisciplinary, encompassing projects in Engineered Geothermal Systems, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), data analytics applications (AI) in subsurface systems, hydraulic fracturing, unconventional reservoir development, and hydrogen storage. Over the past decade, he have contributed to funded projects totaling over $2.7 million, supported by federal agencies like the DOE, RPSEA, NETL, and industry partners. He also holds roles as an associate editor of Frontiers in Earth Science and Guest Editor for a special issue on “Recent Advances in Subsurface Sequestration of Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide” in the Journal of Energies.Dr. Fatemeh Belyadi is a lead subsurface engineer at Obsertelligence LLC, with a career spanning academia and industry. She earned her Ph.D. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from West Virginia University in 2014. Dr. Belyadi held diverse roles, from Assistant Professor at West Virginia University to CEO and Founder of Integrated Smart Data Solutions LLC. She has enriched her knowledge through positions in the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry. Dr. Belyadi is also an author, known for “Hydraulic Fracturing in Unconventional Reservoirs” in both its first and second editions. Her intellectual contributions extend to peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. With extensive education, diverse professional experiences, and impactful contributions, Dr. Fatemeh Belyadi stands as an expert in the field of carbon capture and sequestration.
