Integrated Methods for Optimization
The first edition of Integrated Methods for Optimization was published in January 2007. Because the book covers a rapidly developing field, the time is right for a second edition. The book provides a unified treatment of optimization methods. It brings ideas from mathematical programming (MP), constraint programming (CP), and global optimization (GO)into a single volume. There is no reason these must be learned as separate fields, as they normally are, and there are three reasons they should be studied together. (1) There is much in common among them intellectually, and to a large degree they can be understood as special cases of a single underlying solution technology. (2) A growing literature reports how they can be profitably integrated to formulate and solve a wide range of problems. (3) Several software packages now incorporate techniques from two or more of these fields. The book provides a unique resource for graduate students and practitioners who want a well-rounded background in optimization methods within a single course of study. Engineering students are a particularly large potential audience, because engineering optimization problems often benefit from a combined approach—particularly where design, scheduling, or logistics are involved. The text is also of value to those studying operations research, because their educational programs rarely cover CP, and to those studying computer science and artificial intelligence (AI), because their curricula typically omit MP and GO. The text is also useful for practitioners in any of these areas who want to learn about another, because it provides a more concise and accessible treatment than other texts. The book can cover so wide a range of material because it focuses on ideas that arerelevant to the methods used in general-purpose optimization and constraint solvers. The book focuses on ideas behind the methods that have proved useful in general-purpose optimization and constraint solvers, as well as integrated solvers of the present and foreseeable future. The second edition updates results in this area and includes several major new topics:Background material in linear, nonlinear, and dynamic programming.Network flow theory, due to its importance in filtering algorithms.A chapter on generalized duality theory that more explicitly develops a unifying primal-dual algorithmic structure for optimization methods. An extensive survey of search methods from both MP and AI, using the primal-dual framework as an organizing principle.Coverage of several additional global constraints used in CP solvers. The book continues to focus on exact as opposed to heuristic methods. It is possible to bring heuristic methods into the unifying scheme described in the book, and the new edition will retain the brief discussion of how this might be done.

Projected Subgradient Algorithm in Convex Optimization
This focused monograph presents a study of subgradient algorithms for constrained minimization problems in a Hilbert space. The book is of interest for experts in applications of optimization to engineering and economics. The goal is to obtain a good approximate solution of the problem in the presence of computational errors. The discussion takes into consideration the fact that for every algorithm its iteration consists of several steps and that computational errors for different steps are different, in general. The book is especially useful for the reader because it contains solutions to a number of difficult and interesting problems in the numerical optimization. The subgradient projection algorithm is one of the most important tools in optimization theory and its applications. An optimization problem is described by an objective function and a set of feasible points. For this algorithm each iteration consists of two steps. The first step requires a calculation of a subgradient of the objective function; the second requires a calculation of a projection on the feasible set. The computational errors in each of these two steps are different. This book shows that the algorithm discussed, generates a good approximate solution, if all the computational errors are bounded from above by a small positive constant. Moreover, if computational errors for the two steps of the algorithm are known, one discovers an approximate solution and how many iterations one needs for this. In addition to their mathematical interest, the generalizations considered in this book have a significant practical meaning.

Foundations of Optimization
Current1y there is a vast amount of literature on nonlinear programming in finite dimensions. The pub1ications deal with convex analysis and severa1 aspects of optimization. On the conditions of optima1ity they deal mainly with generali- tions of known results to more general problems and also with less restrictive assumptions. There are also more general results dealing with duality. There are yet other important publications dealing with algorithmic deve10pment and their applications. This book is intended for researchers in nonlinear programming, and deals mainly with convex analysis, optimality conditions and duality in nonlinear programming. It consolidates the classic results in this area and some of the recent results. The book has been divided into two parts. The first part gives a very comp- hensive background material. Assuming a background of matrix algebra and a senior level course in Analysis, the first part on convex analysis is self-contained, and develops some important results needed for subsequent chapters. The second part deals with optimality conditions and duality. The results are developed using extensively the properties of cones discussed in the first part. This has faci- tated derivations of optimality conditions for equality and inequality constrained problems. Further, minimum-principle type conditions are derived under less restrictive assumptions. We also discuss constraint qualifications and treat some of the more general duality theory in nonlinear programming.

Large Scale Linear and Integer Optimization: A Unified Approach
This is a textbook about linear and integer linear optimization. There is a growing need in industries such as airline, trucking, and financial engineering to solve very large linear and integer linear optimization problems. Building these models requires uniquely trained individuals. Not only must they have a thorough understanding of the theory behind mathematical programming, they must have substantial knowledge of how to solve very large models in today's computing environment. The major goal of the book is to develop the theory of linear and integer linear optimization in a unified manner and then demonstrate how to use this theory in a modern computing environment to solve very large real world problems. After presenting introductory material in Part I, Part II of this book is de voted to the theory of linear and integer linear optimization. This theory is developed using two simple, but unifying ideas: projection and inverse projec tion. Through projection we take a system of linear inequalities and replace some of the variables with additional linear inequalities. Inverse projection, the dual of this process, involves replacing linear inequalities with additional variables. Fundamental results such as weak and strong duality, theorems of the alternative, complementary slackness, sensitivity analysis, finite basis the orems, etc. are all explained using projection or inverse projection. Indeed, a unique feature of this book is that these fundamental results are developed and explained before the simplex and interior point algorithms are presented.

Nested algorithms for optimal reservoir operation and their embedding in a decision support platform
Reservoir operation is a multi-objective optimization problem, and is traditionally solved with dynamic programming (DP) and stochastic dynamic programming (SDP) algorithms. The thesis presents novel algorithms for optimal reservoir operation, named nested DP (nDP), nested SDP (nSDP), nested reinforcement learning (nRL) and their multi-objective (MO) variants, correspondingly MOnDP, MOnSDP and MOnRL. The idea is to include a nested optimization algorithm into each state transition, which reduces the initial problem dimension and alleviates the curse of dimensionality. These algorithms can solve multi-objective optimization problems, without significantly increasing the algorithm complexity or the computational expenses. It can additionally handle dense and irregular variable discretization. All algorithms are coded in Java and were tested on the case study of the Knezevo reservoir in the Republic of Macedonia. Nested optimization algorithms are embedded in a cloud application platform for water resources modeling and optimization. The platform is available 24/7, accessible from everywhere, scalable, distributed, interoperable, and it creates a real-time multiuser collaboration platform. This thesis contributes with new and more powerful algorithms for an optimal reservoir operation and cloud application platform. All source codes are available for public use and can be used by researchers and practitioners to further advance the mentioned areas.

Optimization
The 9th Belgian-French-German Conference on Optimization has been held in Namur (Belgium) on September 7-11, 1998. This volume is a collection of papers presented at this Conference. Originally, this Conference was a French-German Conference but this year, in accordance with the organizers' wishes, a third country, Belgium, has joined the founding members of the Conference. Hence the name: Belgian French-German Conference on Optimization. Since the very beginning, the purpose of these Conferences has been to bring together researchers working in the area of Optimization and partic ularly to encourage young researchers to present their work. Most of the participants come from the organizing countries. However the general ten dancy is to invite outside researchers to attend the meeting. So this year, among the 101 participants at this Conference, twenty researchers came from other countries. The general theme of the Conference is everything that concerns the area of Optimization without specification of particular topics. So theoretical as pects of Optimization, in addition to applications and algorithms of Opti mization, will be developed. However, and this point was very important for the organizers, the Conference must retain its convivial character. No more than two parallel sessions are organized. This would allow useful contacts between researchers to be promoted. The editors express their sincere thanks to all those who took part in this Conference. Their invaluable discussions have made this volume possible.

Archiving Strategies for Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization Algorithms
This book presents an overview of archiving strategies developed over the last years by the authors that deal with suitable approximations of the sets of optimal and nearly optimal solutions of multi-objective optimization problems by means of stochastic search algorithms. All presented archivers are analyzed with respect to the approximation qualities of the limit archives that they generate and the upper bounds of the archive sizes. The convergence analysis will be done using a very broad framework that involves all existing stochastic search algorithms and that will only use minimal assumptions on the process to generate new candidate solutions. All of the presented archivers can effortlessly be coupled with any set-based multi-objective search algorithm such as multi-objective evolutionary algorithms, and the resulting hybrid method takes over the convergence properties of the chosen archiver. This book hence targets at all algorithm designers and practitioners in the field of multi-objective optimization.

Deep Learning for Computational Imaging
Computational techniques for image reconstruction problems enable imaging technologies including high-resolution microscopy, astronomy and seismology, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Until recently, methods for solving such inverse problems were derived by experts without any learning. Now, the best performing image reconstruction methods are based on deep learning. This textbook gives the first comprehensive introduction to deep learning based image reconstruction methods. This book first introduces important inverse problems in imaging, including denoising and reconstructing an image from few and noisy measurements, and explains what makes those problems hard and interesting. Then, the book briefly discusses traditional optimization and sparsity based reconstruction methods, as well as optimization techniques as a basis for training and deriving deep neural networks for image reconstruction. The main part of the book is about how to solve image reconstruction problems with deep learning techniques: The book first disuses supervised deep learning approaches that map a measurement to an image as well as network architectures for imaging including convolutional neural networks and transformers. Then, reconstruction approaches based on generative models such as variational autoencoders and diffusion models are discussed, and how un-trained neural networks and implicit neural representations enable signal and image reconstruction. The book ends with a discussion on the robustness of deep learning based reconstruction as well as a discussion on the important topic of evaluating models and datasets, which are a critical ingredient of deep learning based imaging.

It is connected to various applications like protein structure prediction, computer-aided drug design, and computerized medical diagnosis based on image and signal data, which accomplish low-cost, accurate, and reliable solutions for improving healthcare services. With the recent advancements, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques are widely used in biomedical engineering to develop intelligent decision-making healthcare systems in real-time. However, accuracy and reliability in model performance can be a concern in tackling data generated from medical images and signals, making it challenging for researchers and practitioners. Therefore, optimized models can produce quality healthcare services to handle the complexities involved in biomedical research. Various optimization techniques have been employed to optimize parameters, hyper-parameters, and architectural information of ML/DL models explicitly applied to biological, medical, and signal data. The swarm intelligence approach has the potential to solve complex non-linear optimization problems. It mimics the collective behavior of social swarms such as ant colonies, honey bees, and bird flocks. The cooperative nature of swarms can search global settings of ML/DL models, which efficiently provide the solution to biomedical engineering applications. Finally, the book aims to provide the utility of swarm optimization and similar optimization techniques to design ML/DL models to improve the solutions related to biomedical engineering.

Applied Machine Learning covers many topics for people who want to use machine learning processes to get things done, with a strong emphasis on using existing tools and packages, rather than writing one’s own code.A companion to the author's Probability and Statistics for Computer Science, this book picks up where the earlier book left off (but also supplies a summary of probability that the reader can use).Emphasizing the usefulness of standard machinery from applied statistics, this textbook gives an overview of the major applied areas in learning, including coverage of:• classification using standard machinery (naive bayes; nearest neighbor; SVM)• clustering and vector quantization (largely as in PSCS)• PCA (largely as in PSCS)• variants of PCA (NIPALS; latent semantic analysis; canonical correlation analysis)• linear regression (largely as in PSCS)• generalized linear models including logistic regression• model selection with Lasso, elasticnet• robustness and m-estimators• Markov chains and HMM’s (largely as in PSCS)• EM in fairly gory detail; long experience teaching this suggests one detailed example is required, which students hate; but once they’ve been through that, the next one is easy• simple graphical models (in the variational inference section)• classification with neural networks, with a particular emphasis onimage classification• autoencoding with neural networks• structure learning

Extreme Learning Machines 2013: Algorithms and Applications
In recent years, ELM has emerged as a revolutionary technique of computational intelligence, and has attracted considerable attentions. An extreme learning machine (ELM) is a single layer feed-forward neural network alike learning system, whose connections from the input layer to the hidden layer are randomly generated, while the connections from the hidden layer to the output layer are learned through linear learning methods. The outstanding merits of extreme learning machine (ELM) are its fast learning speed, trivial human intervene and high scalability. This book contains some selected papers from the International Conference on Extreme Learning Machine 2013, which was held in Beijing China, October 15-17, 2013. This conference aims to bring together the researchers and practitioners of extreme learning machine from a variety of fields including artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering and bioinformatics, system modelling and control, and signal and image processing, to promote research and discussions of “learning without iterative tuning".This book covers algorithms and applications of ELM. It gives readers a glance of the newest developments of ELM.

Machine Learning
The ability to learn is one of the most fundamental attributes of intelligent behavior. Consequently, progress in the theory and computer modeling of learn ing processes is of great significance to fields concerned with understanding in telligence. Such fields include cognitive science, artificial intelligence, infor mation science, pattern recognition, psychology, education, epistemology, philosophy, and related disciplines. The recent observance of the silver anniversary of artificial intelligence has been heralded by a surge of interest in machine learning-both in building models of human learning and in understanding how machines might be endowed with the ability to learn. This renewed interest has spawned many new research projects and resulted in an increase in related scientific activities. In the summer of 1980, the First Machine Learning Workshop was held at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. In the same year, three consecutive issues of the Inter national Journal of Policy Analysis and Information Systems were specially devoted to machine learning (No. 2, 3 and 4, 1980). In the spring of 1981, a special issue of the SIGART Newsletter No. 76 reviewed current research projects in the field. . This book contains tutorial overviews and research papers representative of contemporary trends in the area of machine learning as viewed from an artificial intelligence perspective. As the first available text on this subject, it is intended to fulfill several needs.

Density Ratio Estimation in Machine Learning
Machine learning is an interdisciplinary field of science and engineering that studies mathematical theories and practical applications of systems that learn. This book introduces theories, methods and applications of density ratio estimation, which is a newly emerging paradigm in the machine learning community. Various machine learning problems such as non-stationarity adaptation, outlier detection, dimensionality reduction, independent component analysis, clustering, classification and conditional density estimation can be systematically solved via the estimation of probability density ratios. The authors offer a comprehensive introduction of various density ratio estimators including methods via density estimation, moment matching, probabilistic classification, density fitting and density ratio fitting, as well as describing how these can be applied to machine learning. The book provides mathematical theories for density ratio estimation including parametric and non-parametric convergence analysis and numerical stability analysis to complete the first and definitive treatment of the entire framework of density ratio estimation in machine learning.
