Fall of the Shell
Eleven hundred years after the apocalyptic destruction of the United States of America, peace between the remaining warring tribes has finally been achieved. Despite this peace, the Pelbar stronghold Threerivers retains its secretive and reclusive ways, keeping its distance from the other remaining tribes and guarding against change. A strict matriarchy, Threerivers remains the most conservative Pelbar community under the unquestioned and unyielding rule of its leader, Udge. Life in Threerivers continues without change until two young twin brothers, Brudoer and Gamwyn, accidentally initiate events that threaten the established order. The resulting chain of consequences sends Gamwyn on a quest to the far reaches of this postapocalyptic world. Within Threerivers, Brudoer’s imprisonment threatens the long-established matriarchal rule of the Pelbar stronghold. The Fall of the Shell is the fourth book in the classic series of postapocalyptic novels about the people of Pelbar

To the Yetts o' Hell
As Fenella Wilson points out in her Introduction to this collection of Neil Munro's writings on war, the theme is represented in each aspect of his career as a writer - in his fiction, journalism and poetry. A number of the short stories here, including two Para Handy tales, were published Munro's lifetime, as was his introduction to Fred Farrell's 1920 The 51st Division War Sketches, and some of the Poems. What has not previously 'seen the light of day' since The Great War are the reports which Munro wrote as a war correspondent, as a civilian and later in uniform, in 1914, 1917 and 1918. They are vivid, personal, accounts from the Western Front, widely published in a range of newspapers of the time. Stories of Scottish regiments - in kilts, with their Pipers - abound. They cushion, but don't diminish, the reality of everyday life both for soldiers on all sides in the conflict, and for the local population, amid the 'havoc' of the battlefields; 'the filthy job of human slaughter'.

Micropolar Theory of Shells and Plates
For the first time, the Micropolar Theory of Elasticity is applied to solving a wide variety of problems connected to the specifics of nanomaterials. Namely, their unique physical-mechanical characteristics and behaviors under various stress-induced conditions. These theories have been constructed based on the equations of the classical theory of elasticity as well as other equations that have till now remained untouched in their application to molecular theories of solid deformable media. The book also introduces a new applied micropolar theory of thin shells which is based on Cosserat's pseudo-continuum. It explores the theory’s application to a category of nanomaterial shells and plates previously neglected from classical theories due to their unconventional size and structure. Theoretical results are accompanied by solutions of certain problems, essential for various applications. The book consists of six chapters. The first chapter is a review of the essential data on the non-symmetric theory of elasticity. The second and third chapters are devoted to various theories of plate bending and solutions to some basic problems. Chapter four refers to membrane or, so-called, momentary shell theory. Chapter five deals with the theory of very shallow shells. Finally, chapter six presents the geometry of the nonlinear theory of plates and the theory of very shallow shells. The book is intended for researchers, postgraduate students, and engineers, interested in the design of structures from nanomaterials and in the problems of mechanics of deformable bodies, theories of shells and plates, and their applications in micromechanics.

Nonlinear Theory of Elastic Shells
Elastic shells are pervasive in everyday life. Examples of these thin-walled structures range from automobile hoods to basketballs, veins, arteries and soft drink cans. This book explains shell theory, with numerous examples and applications. As a second edition, it not only brings all the material of the first edition entirely up to date, it also adds two entirely new chapters on general shell theory and general membrane theory. Aerospace, mechanical and civil engineers, as well as applied mathematicians, will find this book a clearly written and thorough information source on shell theory.

Remapping Biology with Goethe, Schelling, and Herder
Remapping Biology with Goethe, Schelling, and Herder recruits a Romantic philosophy of biology into contemporary debates to both integrate the theoretical implications of ecology, evolution, and development, and to contextualize the successes of the Modern Evolutionary Synthesis’s gene’s-eye-view of biology. The dominant philosophy of biology in the twentieth century was one developed within and for the Modern Evolutionary Synthesis. As biologists like those developing an Extended Evolutionary Synthesis have pushed the limits of this paradigm, fresh philosophical approaches have become necessary. This book makes the case that an organicism developed by the 19th century figures Goethe, Schelling, and Herder offers surprising resources to navigate the contemporary biological and evolutionary terrain. This “metamorphic organicism” resonates with present trends in biological theory that emphasize process, organismal dynamics, ecology, and agency. It also proposes strategies for reintegrating reductive and mechanistic maps of biology, like those of the Modern Evolutionary Synthesis, into richer theoretical representations of life.Drawing from cutting-edge biology, Romantic history, and perspectival pluralist literatures, this integrated history-and-philosophy-of-biology will be of interest to students and scholars interested in the genesis of current theoretical tensions in evolutionary biology, and to those seeking constructive ways to resolve those tensions, including practicing biologists and educators.
