Meta-Learning in Decision Tree Induction
The book focuses on different variants of decision tree induction but also describes the meta-learning approach in general which is applicable to other types of machine learning algorithms. The book discusses different variants of decision tree induction and represents a useful source of information to readers wishing to review some of the techniques used in decision tree learning, as well as different ensemble methods that involve decision trees. It is shown that the knowledge of different components used within decision tree learning needs to be systematized to enable the system to generate and evaluate different variants of machine learning algorithms with the aim of identifying the top-most performers or potentially the best one. A unified view of decision tree learning enables to emulate different decision tree algorithms simply by setting certain parameters. As meta-learning requires running many different processes with the aim of obtaining performance results, a detailed description of the experimental methodology and evaluation framework is provided. Meta-learning is discussed in great detail in the second half of the book. The exposition starts by presenting a comprehensive review of many meta-learning approaches explored in the past described in literature, including for instance approaches that provide a ranking of algorithms. The approach described can be related to other work that exploits planning whose aim is to construct data mining workflows. The book stimulates interchange of ideas between different, albeit related, approaches.

Energy Optimization and Security in Federated Learning for IoT Environments
Smart environments such as smart homes and industrial automation have been transformed by the rapid developments in internet of things (IoT) devices and systems. However, the widespread use of these devices poses significant difficulties, particularly in settings with limited energy resources. Due to the significant energy consumption and communication overhead associated with delivering huge amounts of data, traditional machine learning algorithms which rely on centralized cloud servers for training are not always suitable. Federated learning is a decentralized strategy that enables collaborative machine learning model training while keeping the data local on edge devices. It has emerged as a suitable solution to overcome the energy constraints of IoT devices. Federated learning works by dividing the training process among several nodes and using the processing power of edge devices. As opposed to sending raw data to a central server, only the model changes are communicated thereby considerably lowering the communication costs while protecting data privacy. This strategy reduces energy usage while simultaneously reducing network latency and bandwidth-related problems. In this book, the authors show how to optimise federated learning algorithms and develop new communication protocols and resource allocation methodologies to maximize energy savings while retaining respectable model accuracy, to develop long-lasting and scalable IoT solutions that can function independently with no dependency on an external cloud infrastructure. Energy Optimization and Security in Federated Learning for IoT Environments is intended to be a useful resource for academic researchers, R&D professionals, IoT engineers in the IT industry, and data scientists creating optimised AI models to be run in cloud environments.

Quantum Machine Learning in Industrial Automation
This book focuses on quantum machine learning that harnesses the collective properties of quantum states, such as superposition, interference, and entanglement, uses algorithms run on quantum devices, such as quantum computers, to supplement, expedite, or support the work performed by a classical machine learning program. The devices that perform quantum computations are known as quantum computers. Quantum computers have the potential to revolutionize computation by making certain types of classically intractable problems solvable. A few large companies and small start-ups now have functioning non-error-corrected quantum computers composed of several tens of qubits, and some of these are even accessible to the public through the cloud. Additionally, quantum simulators are making strides in fields varying from molecular energetics to many-body physics. Most known use cases fit into four archetypes: quantum simulation, quantum linear algebra for AI and machine learning, quantum optimization and search, and quantum factorization. Advantages of quantum computing are many and to list a few, first, they're fast. Ultimately, quantum computers have the potential to provide computational power on a scale that traditional computers cannot ever match. In 2019, for example, Google claimed to carry out a calculation in about 200 seconds that would take a classical supercomputer around 10,000 years. Second, they can solve complex problems. The more complex a problem, the harder it is for even a supercomputer to solve. When a classical computer fails, it's usually because of a huge degree of complexity and many interacting variables. However, due to the concepts of superposition and entanglement, quantum computers can account for all these variables and complexities to reach a solution. Last but not the least, they can run complex simulations. The speed and complexity that quantum computing can achieve means that, in theory, a quantum computer could simulate many intricate systems.

Brain Storm Optimization Algorithms
Brain Storm Optimization (BSO) algorithms are a new kind of swarm intelligence method, which is based on the collective behavior of human beings, i.e., on the brainstorming process. Since the introduction of BSO algorithms in 2011, many studies on them have been conducted. They not only offer an optimization method, but could also be viewed as a framework of optimization techniques. The process employed in the algorithms could be simplified as a framework with two basic operations: the converging operation and the diverging operation. A “good enough” optimum could be obtained through recursive solution divergence and convergence. The resulting optimization algorithm would naturally have the capability of both convergence and divergence. This book is primarily intended for researchers, engineers, and graduate students with an interest in BSO algorithms and their applications. The chapters cover various aspects of BSO algorithms, and collectively provide broad insights into what these algorithms have to offer. The book is ideally suited as a graduate-level textbook, whereby students may be tasked with the study of the rich variants of BSO algorithms that involves a hands-on implementation to demonstrate the utility and applicability of BSO algorithms in solving optimization problems.

Adaptive Representations for Reinforcement Learning
This book presents new algorithms for reinforcement learning, a form of machine learning in which an autonomous agent seeks a control policy for a sequential decision task. Since current methods typically rely on manually designed solution representations, agents that automatically adapt their own representations have the potential to dramatically improve performance. This book introduces two novel approaches for automatically discovering high-performing representations. The first approach synthesizes temporal difference methods, the traditional approach to reinforcement learning, with evolutionary methods, which can learn representations for a broad class ofoptimization problems. This synthesis is accomplished by customizing evolutionarymethods to the on-line nature of reinforcement learning and using them to evolve representations for value function approximators. The second approach automatically learns representations based on piecewise-constant approximations of value functions. It begins with coarse representations and gradually refines them during learning, analyzing the current policy and value function to deduce the best refinements. This book also introduces a novel method for devising input representations. This method addresses the feature selection problem by extending an algorithm that evolves the topology and weights of neural networks such that it evolves their inputs too.In addition to introducing these new methods, this book presents extensive empirical results in multiple domains demonstrating that these techniques can substantially improve performance over methodswith manual representations.

Ensembles in Machine Learning Applications
This book contains the extended papers presented at the 3rd Workshop on Supervised and Unsupervised Ensemble Methods and their Applications (SUEMA) that was held in conjunction with the European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML/PKDD 2010, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain). As its two predecessors, its main theme was ensembles of supervised and unsupervised algorithms – advanced machinelearning and data mining technique. Unlike a single classification or clustering algorithm, an ensemble is a groupof algorithms, each of which first independently solves the task at hand by assigning a class or cluster label (voting) to instances in a dataset and after that all votes are combined together to produce the final class or cluster membership. As a result, ensembles often outperform best single algorithms in many real-world problems. This book consists of 14 chapters, each of which can be read independently of the others. In addition to two previous SUEMA editions, also published by Springer, many chapters in the current book include pseudo code and/or programming code of the algorithms described in them. This was done in order to facilitate ensemble adoption in practice and to help to both researchers and engineers developing ensemble applications.

Data-Driven Optimization of Manufacturing Processes
All machining process are dependent on a number of inherent process parameters. It is of the utmost importance to find suitable combinations to all the process parameters so that the desired output response is optimized. While doing so may be nearly impossible or too expensive by carrying out experiments at all possible combinations, it may be done quickly and efficiently by using computational intelligence techniques. Due to the versatile nature of computational intelligence techniques, they can be used at different phases of the machining process design and optimization process. While powerful machine-learning methods like gene expression programming (GEP), artificial neural network (ANN), support vector regression (SVM), and more can be used at an early phase of the design and optimization process to act as predictive models for the actual experiments, other metaheuristics-based methods like cuckoo search, ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, and others can be used to optimize these predictive models to find the optimal process parameter combination. These machining and optimization processes are the future of manufacturing. Data-Driven Optimization of Manufacturing Processes contains the latest research on the application of state-of-the-art computational intelligence techniques from both predictive modeling and optimization viewpoint in both soft computing approaches and machining processes. The chapters provide solutions applicable to machining or manufacturing process problems and for optimizing the problems involved in other areas of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering, making it a valuable reference tool. Advances In Combinatorial Optimization: Linear Programming Formulations Of The Traveling Salesman And Other Hard Combinatorial Optimization Problems
Combinational optimization (CO) is a topic in applied mathematics, decision science and computer science that consists of finding the best solution from a non-exhaustive search. CO is related to disciplines such as computational complexity theory and algorithm theory, and has important applications in fields such as operations research/management science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software engineering.Advances in Combinatorial Optimization presents a generalized framework for formulating hard combinatorial optimization problems (COPs) as polynomial sized linear programs. Though developed based on the 'traveling salesman problem' (TSP), the framework allows for the formulating of many of the well-known NP-Complete COPs directly (without the need to reduce them to other COPs) as linear programs, and demonstrates the same for three other problems (e.g. the 'vertex coloring problem' (VCP)). This work also represents a proof of the equality of the complexity classes 'P' (polynomial time) and 'NP' (nondeterministic polynomial time), and makes a contribution to the theory and application of 'extended formulations' (EFs).On a whole, Advances in Combinatorial Optimization offers new modeling and solution perspectives which will be useful to professionals, graduate students and researchers who are either involved in routing, scheduling and sequencing decision-making in particular, or in dealing with the theory of computing in general.

Optimization and Operations Research
The variable metric algorithm is widely recognised as one of the most efficient ways of solving the following problem:- Locate x* a local minimum point n ( 1) of f(x) x E R Considerable attention has been given to the study of the convergence prop- ties of this algorithm especially for the case where analytic expressions are avai- ble for the derivatives g. = af/ax. i 1 ••• n • (2) ~ ~ In particular we shall mention the results of Wolfe (1969) and Powell (1972), (1975). Wolfe established general conditions under which a descent algorithm will converge to a stationary point and Powell showed that two particular very efficient algorithms that cannot be shown to satisfy \,olfe's conditions do in fact converge to the minimum of convex functions under certain conditions. These results will be st- ed more completely in Section 2. In most practical problems analytic expressions for the gradient vector g (Equ. 2) are not available and numerical derivatives are subject to truncation error. In Section 3 we shall consider the effects of these errors on Wolfe's convergent prop- ties and will discuss possible modifications of the algorithms to make them reliable in these circumstances. The effects of rounding error are considered in Section 4, whilst in Section 5 these thoughts are extended to include the case of on-line fu- tion minimisation where each function evaluation is subject to random noise.
