Call of the Holy
This title provides an enquiry into the sacramental theology of Chauvet, Heidegger and Benedict XVI. Chauvet is the voice of contemporary Catholic sacramental theology. His ideas are assimilated by students of theology (particularly, the liturgy) throughout the French and English speaking world more or less without critical appraisal. This is because his major work Symbole et Sacrement is interdisciplinary, moving from a scholastic theological view of sacraments, through a philosophical enquiry both into Heidegger's thought and into theorists of language, to a consideration of anthropology and the monographs of ethnographers. Few readers of Chauvet are equipped with the inter-disciplinary resources to question his theological conclusions. The Call of the Holy revisits Chauvet's sources, with special emphasis on Heidegger's philosophical writings. It uncovers serious omissions in Chauvet's appropriation of Heidegger's thought. These omissions destabilise Chauvet's theological positions and have far-reaching implications, given the influence of Chauvet's thought, for contemporary Catholic sacramental theology. T&T Clark Studies in Fundamental Liturgy offer leading scholarship from all disciplines related to liturgical study. The books in the series seek to reintegrate biblical, patristic, historical, dogmatic and philosophical questions with liturgical study in ways faithful and sympathetic to classical liturgical enquiry. Volumes in the series include monographs, translations of recent texts and edited collections around very specific themes. The series is edited by Susan Frank Parsons and Laurence Paul Hemming of the Society of St. Catherine of Siena.

Clark
Compelling from cover to cover, this is the story of one of the most recorded and beloved jazz trumpeters of all time. With unsparing honesty and a superb eye for detail, Clark Terry, born in 1920, takes us from his impoverished childhood in St. Louis, Missouri, where jazz could be heard everywhere, to the smoke-filled small clubs and carnivals across the Jim Crow South where he got his start, and on to worldwide acclaim. Terry takes us behind the scenes of jazz history as he introduces scores of legendary greats - Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, Dinah Washington, Doc Severinsen, Ray Charles, Thelonious Monk, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Coleman Hawkins, Zoot Sims, and Dianne Reeves, among many others. Terry also reveals much about his own personal life, his experiences with racism, how he helped break the color barrier in 1960 when he joined the Tonight Show band on NBC, and why - at ninety years old - his students from around the world still call and visit him for lessons.

Heavy Planet
Discover MESKLIN - Gravity: 3g at the equator, 700g at the poles! Hal Clement is a Grand Master of SF, and the one most associated with the subgenre of hard SF. From his classic stories in Astounding in the 1940s through his novels of the 1950s and on to the recent Half Life, he has made a lasting impression on SF readers, and on writers, too. For many of them, Clement's work is the model of how to write hard SF, and this book contains the reasons why. Here are all the tales of bizarre, unforgettable Mesklin: the classic novel Mission of Gravity and its sequel, Star Light, as well as the short stories "Under"and "Lecture Demonstration." Also included is "Whirligig World," the famous essay Clement published in Astounding in 1953. It describes the rigorous process he used to create his intriguingly plausible high-gravity planet, with its odd flattened shape, its day less than eighteen minutes long, and its many-limbed, noble natives. Come to Mesklin and learn why The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction called Mission of Gravity "one of the best loved novels in SF."

Harold
In Harold, the beloved actor Hal Holbrook presents an affecting memoir about his struggle to discover his true self, even as he learned to transform himself onstage. Abandoned by his mother and father when he was two, Holbrook and his two sisters commenced separate journeys of survival. Raised by his powerful grandfather, who died when Holbrook was twelve, Holbrook spent his childhood at boarding schools, visiting his father in an insane asylum and hoping his mother would suddenly surface in Hollywood. As World War II engulfed Europe, Holbrook began acting almost by accident. Through war, marriage, and the work of honing his craft, his fear of insanity and his fearlessness in the face of risk were channelled into discovering that the riskiest path of all-success as an actor-would be his birthright. The climb up that forbidding mountain was a lonely one. And how he achieved it - the cost to his wife and children and to his own conscience - is the dark side of the fame he would eventually earn by portraying the man his career would forever be most closely associated with: Mark Twain.
