Scandalous Jesus
The question of the historical Jesus is not only a historical question but also a historic one. And historic questions can be the most scandalous, says Joe Bessler, because they challenge the assumptions governing societies. Like Galileo questioning the Ptolemaic universe, historic questions transgress the limits of authority, belonging, and institutional legitimacy. Each of the three quests of the historical Jesus—from the original quest in the early 20th century, through the new quest, to the renewed quest in the late 20th century—has opened up new questions. In A Scandalous Jesus, Bessler seeks to capture the historic questions that surround and shape research on the historical Jesus and assess the impact of the differing quests on theological and cultural life.

Visual Data Insights Using SAS ODS Graphics
SAS ODS graphics users will learn in this book how to visually understand and communicate the significance of data to deliver images for quick and easy insight, with precise numbers. Many charts or plots require the viewer to run the eye from a bar end or plot point to some point on an axis, and then to interpolate between tick marks to estimate the value. Some design choices can lead to wrong conclusions or mistaken impressions. Graphic software relies on defaults to deliver something if you make a minimal effort, but that something is not likely to be exactly what you want. Visual Data Insights Using SAS ODS Graphics provides examples using experience-based design principles. It presents examples of bar charts, pie charts, and trend lines or time series plots, the graph types commonly used in business, other organizations, and the media for visual insight into data. Newer graphs are also included: dot plots, needle plots, waterfall charts, butterfly charts, heat maps, bubble plots, step plots, high-low plots, and donut charts. In addition, there are basic tools of statistics: scatter plots, box plots, histograms, fit and confidence plots, and distributions. Author LeRoy Bessler introduces unique creations, including sparsely annotated time series, maximally informative bar charts, better box plots, histograms based on interesting atypical rationales, and much more. The examples use SAS sample data sets as input. Any SAS user can experiment with the code presented to see what else is possible, or adapt it to repurpose the design and apply it with a customized version of that code. What You’ll LearnCreate graphs that are easily and quickly interpreted, and without ambiguitySupply precise data values that are correct on the graph and correctly associated with the graphic visual elementsTake advantage of widely applicable (but not necessarily available elsewhere) design examplesAvoid bad practices that are encouraged by poor examples elsewhereGet past sub-optimal designs and results that are built into software defaultsTake advantage of less familiar capabilities available in the softwareWho This Book Is ForSAS software users who want to understand their data and/or visually deliver their results

Expansion Mastery
“The Tao produced the One; The One produced the Two; The Two produced the Three; The Three produced the Ten Thousand Things.” Lao Tzu, 42nd Verse of the Tao Te ChingIf you had the knowledge and tools to make serious and lasting changes in your life, would you do it? If you had the chance to start over, change everything you needed to change in order to live the visions of your dreams, would you? Is it going to take a near death experience to motivate you into making the necessary changes in your life, or will you accept the challenges contained here and master your own personal expansion? The world is going through great transformation and human beings all over the globe are realizing that they are living in a time of incredible human potential and growth. Now is your time, right now, to be a valuable part of this movement."Expansion Mastery" offers you a chance at creating the life you know in your heart you were meant to experience. A life of real happiness, a sense of living “Heaven on Earth” by understanding your position between Heaven and Earth. The essence of this ancient spiritual concept of “Heaven, Earth and Being” is presented to you with clarity to achieve ultimate expansion. Can you rise up and actually participate in your life? Can you change your attitude from “just getting through another day” to fully engage your life with enthusiasm, purpose and presence? It’s no longer a question of can you---it’s a question of will you!

Death Penalty's Denial of Fundamental Human Rights
The Death Penalty's Denial of Fundamental Human Rights details how capital punishment violates universal human rights-to life; to be free from torture and other forms of cruelty; to be treated in a non-arbitrary, non-discriminatory manner; and to dignity. In tracing the evolution of the world's understanding of torture, which now absolutely prohibits physical and psychological torture, the book argues that an immutable characteristic of capital punishment-already outlawed in many countries and American states-is that it makes use of death threats. Mock executions and other credible death threats, in fact, have long been treated as torturous acts. When crime victims are threatened with death and are helpless to prevent their deaths, for example, courts routinely find such threats inflict psychological torture. With simulated executions and non-lethal corporal punishments already prohibited as torturous acts, death sentences and real executions, the book contends, must be classified as torturous acts, too.

Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel 1784–1846

Series of Bessel and Kummer-Type Functions
This book is devoted to the study of certain integral representations for Neumann, Kapteyn, Schlömilch, Dini and Fourier series of Bessel and other special functions, such as Struve and von Lommel functions. The aim is also to find the coefficients of the Neumann and Kapteyn series, as well as closed-form expressions and summation formulas for the series of Bessel functions considered. Some integral representations are deduced using techniques from the theory of differential equations. The text is aimed at a mathematical audience, including graduate students and those in the scientific community who are interested in a new perspective on Fourier–Bessel series, and their manifold and polyvalent applications, mainly in general classical analysis, applied mathematics and mathematical physics.

Bessel Processes, Schramm–Loewner Evolution, and the Dyson Model
The purpose of this book is to introduce two recent topics in mathematical physics and probability theory: the Schramm–Loewner evolution (SLE) and interacting particle systems related to random matrix theory. A typical example of the latter systems is Dyson's Brownian motion (BM) model. The SLE and Dyson's BM model may be considered as "children" of the Bessel process with parameter D, BES(D), and the SLE and Dyson's BM model as "grandchildren" of BM. In Chap. 1 the parenthood of BM in diffusion processes is clarified and BES(D) is defined for any D ≥ 1. Dependence of the BES(D) path on its initial value is represented by the Bessel flow. In Chap. 2 SLE is introduced as a complexification of BES(D). Rich mathematics and physics involved in SLE are due to the nontrivial dependence of the Bessel flow on D. From a result for the Bessel flow, Cardy's formula in Carleson's form is derived for SLE. In Chap. 3 Dyson's BM model with parameter β is introduced as a multivariate extension of BES(D) with the relation D = β + 1. The book concentrates on the case where β = 2 and calls this case simply the Dyson model. The Dyson model inherits the two aspects of BES(3); hence it has very strong solvability. That is, the process is proved to be determinantal in the sense that all spatio-temporal correlation functions are given by determinants, and all of them are controlled by a single function called the correlation kernel. From the determinantal structure of the Dyson model, the Tracy–Widom distribution is derived.

Treatise on the Theory of Bessel Functions
The late Professor G. N. Watson wrote his monumental 1995 treatise on the theory of Bessel functions with two objects in view. The first was the development of applications of the fundamental processes of the theory of complex variables; and the second was the compilation of a collection of results of value to mathematicians and physicists, who encounter Bessel functions in the course of their researches. The completeness of his theoretical account, combined with the wide scope of the practical examples and the extensive numerical tables, have resulted in a book which is indispensable to pure and applied mathematicians, as well as to physicists.

From Bessel To Multi-index Mittag-leffler Functions: Enumerable Families, Series In Them And Convergence
Bessel and Mittag-Leffler functions are prominent within mathematical and scientific fields due to increasing interest in non-conventional models within applied mathematics. Since the analytical solutions of many differential and integral equations of arbitrary order can be written as series of special functions of fractional calculus, they are now unavoidable tools for handling various mathematical models of integer or fractional order. From Bessel to Multi-Index Mittag-Leffler Functions analyzes this through the study of enumerable families of different classes of special functions.Enumerable families are considered and the convergence of series is investigated. Providing a unified approach to the classical power series, analogues of the classical results for the power series are obtained, and the conclusion is that each of the considered series has a similar convergence behavior to a power series. Also studied are various properties of the Bessel and Mittag-Leffler functions and their generalizations, including estimations, asymptotic formulae, fractional differentiation and integration operators.
