Ethical Reasoning in Big Data
This book springs from a multidisciplinary, multi-organizational, and multi-sector conversation about the privacy and ethical implications of research in human affairs using big data. The need to cultivate and enlist the public’s trust in the abilities of particular scientists and scientific institutions constitutes one of this book’s major themes. The advent of the Internet, the mass digitization of research information, and social media brought about, among many other things, the ability to harvest – sometimes implicitly – a wealth of human genomic, biological, behavioral, economic, political, and social data for the purposes of scientific research as well as commerce, government affairs, and social interaction. What type of ethical dilemmas did such changes generate? How should scientists collect, manipulate, and disseminate this information? The effects of this revolution and its ethical implications are wide-ranging. This book includes the opinions of myriad investigators, practitioners, and stakeholders in big data on human beings who also routinely reflect on the privacy and ethical issues of this phenomenon. Dedicated to the practice of ethical reasoning and reflection in action, the book offers a range of observations, lessons learned, reasoning tools, and suggestions for institutional practice to promote responsible big data research on human affairs. It caters to a broad audience of educators, researchers, and practitioners. Educators can use the volume in courses related to big data handling and processing. Researchers can use it for designing new methods of collecting, processing, and disseminating big data, whether in raw form or as analysis results. Lastly, practitioners can use it to steer future tools or procedures for handling big data. As this topic represents an area of great interest that still remains largely undeveloped, this book is sure to attract significant interest by filling an obvious gap in currently available literature.

Ronald Colman
One of the most enchanting figures of the silver screen, Ronald Colman appeared in such classic films as Beau Geste, The Prisoner of Zenda, Lost Horizon, and A Tale of Two Cities. He was nominated four times for the Academy Award, which he won for a spectacular performance in A Double Life. His voice was unrivaled, and he had a brilliant career as a radio star. A charismatically photogenic performer, he was voted the handsomest actor in Hollywood on several occasions. His superior skills, his dashing visage, and his resonant speech made him one of the most sought after and acclaimed stars of his day.In spite of his enormous talent and supreme achievements, Ronald Colman has strangely been overlooked. This immensely detailed reference book brings Colman's life and career into sharp focus, corrects misleading information about him, and comments on the critical response to his work. The heart of this expertly researched volume is a series of chapters with entries for Colman's many hundreds of performances in film, radio, and television. Entries provide full production information, plot synopses, excerpts from reviews, and valuable commentary. An extensive annotated bibliography summarizes and assesses material written about Colman, and the author scrupulously debunks the many myths that have been written about Colman in previous publications.

Benjamin Colman’s Epistolary World, 1688-1755
This book tells the story of the Rev. Benjamin Colman (1673-1747), one of eighteenth-century America’s most influential ministers, and his transatlantic social world of letters. Exploring his epistolary network reveals how imperial culture diffused through the British Atlantic and formed the Dissenting Interest in America, England, and Scotland. Traveling to and living in England between 1695-1699, Colman forged enduring connections with English Dissenters that would animate and define his ministry for nearly a half century. The chapters reassemble Colman’s epistolary web to illuminate the Dissenting Interest’s broad range of activities through the circulation of Dissenting histories, libraries, missionaries, revival news, and provincial defenses of religious liberty. This book argues that over the course of Colman’s life the Dissenting Interest integrated, extended, and ultimately detached, presenting the history of Protestant Dissent as fundamentally a transatlantic story shaped by the provincial edges of the British Empire.
