1 Recce Beyond Enemy Lines
The demolition team is passing the cases containing explosives one by one to Klein-Jakes Jacobs where he is hanging spiderlike from the top of the scaffolding in the train tunnel. It is a dangerous process. If the scaffolding topples, the explosives will drop 10 m to the ground – and the entire Recce team will be blown to kingdom come. 1 Recce: Behind Enemy Lines takes the reader into the ‘inner sanctum’ of one of the sharpest, most versatile and deadliest specialist units in the former South African Defence Force. In their own words, Recce operators recount some of the life-threatening operations they conducted under great secrecy in Angola, Rhodesia and Mozambique during the late 1970s. Operators sweat in aircraft or in submarines deep below the ocean’s surface. They brave crocodile-infested rivers in the dark of night. Recces place explosives in a train tunnel deep inside enemy territory and transform a large fuel storage facility in an Angolan port city into a fiery inferno. There were intense firefights, victories, but also losses . . . Those who were there give first-hand accounts of the tension, anticipation, fear, adrenalin, exhaustion, thirst and grief they experienced, but also of the humorous moments and the close bonds of friendship that were forged in situations of mortal danger.

In the driving seat
Brand Pretorius knows what it means to be a leader: he was at the head of Toyota South Africa during its heyday, and took over as chief executive at the McCarthy Group. He knows that leadership means making hard and unpopular decisions with an eye on the long term. He writes about his four decades in business and the lessons he learnt. He illustrates his lessons on leadership with tales from his illustrious career in motoring, like how it feels to be in a Formula 1 racing car with one of the world¿s best drivers. This book gives a rare insight into what it means to do business in South Africa, and how a South African business leader can navigate all of our country¿s complexities. Filled with the wisdom of hard experience, with lessons which, though in the first instance aimed at business people, can be applied in any sphere of life. An inspirational and gripping book.

He's been there, got the T-shirt. Having suffered years of substance abuse, volatile relationships and self-destructive behaviour, Devon finally heeded the advice of R Narayan Murthy - that "Growth is painful. Change is painful. From this comes the realisation that, no matter the mistakes of your past, you deserve to be happy and successful. In Get OVA It!, Devon presents his real-world method for anyone stuck in a life rut to break free from the pain and sadness holding them back. Ownership, Vision and Action stack together to form the structure of his programme - used in tandem, they provide an opportunity for profound transformation. Black bull, ancestors and me
Nkunzi's urge to live and draw others into her sense of interconnectedness emerges as a consistent theme in her story. As a sangoma, Nkunzi is able to explore dimensions of her sexual identity because of her relationship with both male and female ancestors. "In Zulu culture a man must be a man and do male things and a woman must be a woman and do female things but with sangomas it is more flexible. I can dance like a woman and wear a woman's clothes and dance like a man and wear a man's clothes. I can do the work of a man, like slaughtering a goat or a cow although in traditional Zulu culture a woman cannot slaughter…" Conscious of her constitutional rights as an urban young lesbian in a time of a relentless spate of hate crimes against township lesbians, Nkunzi is simultaneously sensitive to the demands of the guiding ancestral voice of the traditional, rural Zulu patriarch whose name she bears. Her quest is for a middle path of balance and integration between the living and the dead, the traditional and the modern. Nkunzi Zandile Nkabinde was born on 7 December 1975. She comes from a family of six children of which she is the third child. Her given name is Zandile. She says that she was born a lesbian. She had just started to study journalism when she received her calling to become a sangoma (traditional healer). During that time she is also named for her ancestor Nkunzi (Black Bull) who gives her her healing powers. She is proud of being a lesbian and a sangoma. After completing her training, she practises in Soweto where she lived until 2004 when she gets a job as a tour guide at Constitution Hill. She still also practises as a sangoma. All her life she has dreamt of becoming a writer and hopes that this book is her first step.

Healing foods
Over 2 000 years ago Hippocrates wrote: "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food. Each one of the substances in a man's diet, acts upon his body and changes it in some way, and upon these changes his whole life depends, whether he be in health, in sickness or convalescent. To be sure, there can be little knowledge more necessary." Now, as never before, we have to really reconsider these wise words for in our modern fast-paced, stressed, over-wrought and fear-filled lives, we are not coping and we are not glowing with abundant health and well-being. With Healing foods, prolific author Margaret Roberts brings nature's pharmacy into our homes and into our lives. Step by step, and easily accessible, she showcases the superfoods and warns of the danger foods, and lists the ailments we suffer from, offering comforting natural ways of correcting and rebuilding our health and regaining our vitality. More than 150 common and lesser-known vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices and other food plants that are the building blocks of good health are described in full, covering aspects such as: the plant's history and origin; instructions on how to grow the plant; medicinal uses and major nutrients; ideas on how to include the plant in the diet, along with recipes; cosmetic and household uses and other interesting facts and hints. The book concludes with an extensive A–Z list of ailments, with information on which danger foods to avoid and which superfoods, supplements and other therapies to consider to bring relief for each of the more than 100 common ailments discussed. This book is essential reading for each of us in our quest for health and energy in an increasingly stress-filled world.
