Bill Russell is acting as a volunteer steward at Warwick races when he confronts his worst nightmare – the violent death of his much-loved wife. But worse is to come when he is accused of killing her and hounded mercilessly by the media. His life begins to unravel completely as he loses his job and his home. Even his best friends turn against him, believing him guilty of the heinous crime in spite of the lack of compelling evidence. Bill sets out to clear his name but finds that proving one’s innocence is not easy – one has to find the true culprit, and Bill believes he knows who it is. But can he prove it before he becomes another victim of the murderer.Guilty Not Guilty is a journey of greed and jealousy set against the grief of personal tragedy and loss, with many a twist and turn along the way.Praise for Felix Francis's novels: ‘As usual with a Francis, once I opened the book, I didn’t want to put it down… Felix’s resolution is darker and more shocking than his father would ever have contemplated, but reflects grittier times and changing tastes in fiction. Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies
'This is the book I wish I'd had to guide me through my twenties' - Anjelica Huston'A fierce-but-tender guide to conquering our self doubt' - Glennon DoyleBy the time she was in her late twenties, Tara Schuster was a rising TV executive who had worked for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and helped launch Key & Peele to viral superstardom. By all appearances, she had mastered being a grown-up. But beneath that veneer of success, she was a chronically anxious, self-medicating mess. No one knew that her road to adulthood had been paved with depression, anxiety, and shame, owing in large part to her minimally parented upbringing. She realized she'd hit rock bottom when she drunk-dialed her therapist pleading for help. Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies is the story of Tara's path to re-parenting herself and becoming a 'ninja of self-love'. Through simple, daily rituals, Tara transformed her mind, body and relationships, and shows how to: * fake gratitude until you actually feel gratitude * excavate your emotional wounds and heal them with kindness * identify your self-limiting beliefs, kick them to the curb, and start living a life you choose * silence your inner frenemy and shield yourself from self-criticism * carve out time each morning to start your day empowered, inspired, and ready to rule * create a life you truly, totally f*cking LOVE This is the book Tara wished someone had given her and it is the book many of us desperately need: a candid, hysterical, addictively readable, practical guide to growing up (no matter where you are in life) and learning to love yourself in a non-throw-up-in-your-mouth-it's-so-cheesy way.

Shackleton
Ernest Shackleton was the quintessential Edwardian hero. A contemporary - and adversary - of Scott, he sailed on the 'Discovery' expedition of 1900, and went on to mount three expeditions of his own. Like Scott, he was a social adventurer; snow and ice held no particular attraction, but the pursuit of wealth, fame and power did. Yet Shackleton, and Anglo-Irishman who left school at 16, needed status to raise money for his own expeditions. At various times he was involved in journalism, politics, manufacturing and City fortune-hunting - none of them very effectively. A frustrated poet, he was never to be successful with money, but he did succeed in marrying it. At his height he was feted as a national hero, knighted by Edward VII, and granted GBP20,000 by the government for achievements which were, and remain, the very stuff of legend. But the world to which he returned in 1917 after the sensational 'Endurance' expedition did not seem to welcome surviving heroes. Poverty-stricken by the end of the war, he had to pay off his debts through writing and endless lecturing. He finally obtained funds for another expedition, but dies of a heart attack, aged only 47, at it reached South Georgia.

It matters whose sister you were seen with. If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, it matters a very great deal.Colin Barrett's debut does not take us to Glanbeigh alone; there are other towns, and older characters. But each story is defined by a youth lived in a crucible of menace and desire - and each crackles with the uniform energy and force that distinguish this terrific collection.

The Year of Sunshine
The Year of Sunshine "Some beings enter our lives not to be kept, but to teach us how to hold-and then, how to let go with grace." In the quiet hills of Ngunjini, a wounded, unnamed dog and a man carrying silent storms meet beneath a wide, watchful sky. This is not a rescue story. Nothing here is broken, lost, or in need of fixing. It is a story of recognition-two beings meeting at the exact edge of what they are ready to become. The Year of Sunshine is a spiritual memoir of transformation, told in part through the conscious voice of Sunshine-the dog who did not arrive as a pet or possession, but as a teacher. Over one luminous year, their bond unfolds as a sacred curriculum in trust, presence, and the art of release. From first meeting to conscious transition, Sunshine guides his human-and now the reader-back to the deeper language of the land: stillness as intelligence, animals as wisdom carriers, and love as a lineage that outlasts physical form. Through seasons of joy, separation, and return, this book invites a gentle yet radical shift in perception. Animals are not accessories-they are guardians, mirrors, and teachers. Grief is not an ending; it is a widening. Letting go is not loss; it is the most disciplined and generous form of love. Without argument or ideology, the book challenges inherited assumptions about dogs, pets, and animal companionship-especially in environments where animals are rarely granted inner lives. Emerging at a moment of profound global recognition-where animals are revered as conscious guides, a truth illuminated by the worldwide journey of Aloka the Peace Dog-this story reflects a deep and timely remembering. The Year of Sunshine offers an intimate immersion into the same quiet truth captivating millions: that animals meet us where words cannot, teaching peace, calm, and wisdom through the power of their presence. At its heart, this is more than a book about a dog. It is a reflective guide for anyone who has felt the silent depth of the human-animal bond-and wondered what that bond is asking of them. Blending nature spirituality, mindfulness, ancestral wisdom, and grief reflection, it speaks to readers who see animals not as property, but as kin; not merely companions, but carriers of an older, relational intelligence. This book is for readers who: - Have loved a dog or companion animal deeply - Believe animals have inner lives and emotional intelligence - Seek meaning in grief without sentimentality - Feel drawn to nature, stillness, and conscious living - Value the human-animal bond as sacred and transformative This book offers: - A genre of its own: The Ceremonial Animist Memoir - A grief narrative that reframes loss as continuity and presence - A meditation on mindfulness, stewardship, and interspecies connection - A soulful exploration of what dogs and animals teach us about being human It belongs alongside reflective works by Mary Oliver, Helen Macdonald, and Francis Weller, and will resonate with readers of Braiding Sweetgrass, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and When Breath Becomes Air. In the tradition of profound animal teachers who walk among us to quietly mend the world, The Year of Sunshine illuminates the intimate journey that begins when we dare to listen. A wounded being is not a broken thing waiting to be fixed.A lonely heart is not an empty room waiting to be filled. This is the story of a seed.

World on the Wing
‘A vaulting triumph of a book’ Isabella Tree, author of Wilding'A master storyteller, Weidensaul communicates so much joy in the sheer act of witnessing and such exhilaration in the advances of the science behind what he sees that we are slow to grasp the extent of the ecological crisis that he outlines.' ObserverBird migration remains perhaps the most singularly compelling natural phenomenon in the world. Nothing else combines its global sweep with its inherent ability to engender wonder and excitement. The past two decades have seen an explosion in our understanding of the almost unfathomable feats of endurance and complexity involved in bird migration – yet the science that informs these majestic journeys is still in its infancy.Pulitzer Prize-shortlisted writer-ornithologist Scott Weidensaul is at the forefront of this research, and A World on the Wing sees him track some of the most remarkable flights undertaken by birds. His own voyage of discovery sees him sail through the storm-wracked waters of the Bering Sea; encounter gunners and trappers in the Mediterranean; and visit a forgotten corner of north-east India, where former headhunters have turned one of the grimmest stories of migratory crisis into an unprecedented conservation success. As our world comes increasingly under threat from the effects of climate change, these ecological miracles may provide an invaluable guide to a more sustainable future for all species, including us. This is the rousing and reverent story of the billions of birds that, despite the numerous obstacles we have placed in their path, continue to head with hope to the far horizon.

Love, Loss, and What We Ate
A vivid memoir of food and family, survival and triumph, Love, Loss, and What We Ate traces the arc of Padma Lakshmi’s unlikely path from an immigrant childhood to a complicated life in front of the camera—a tantalizing blend of Ruth Reichl’s Tender at the Bone and Nora Ephron’s HeartburnLong before Padma Lakshmi ever stepped onto a television set, she learned that how we eat is an extension of how we love, how we comfort, how we forge a sense of home—and how we taste the world as we navigate our way through it. Shuttling between continents as a child, she lived a life of dislocation that would become habit as an adult, never quite at home in the world. And yet, through all her travels, her favorite food remained the simple rice she first ate sitting on the cool floor of her grandmother’s kitchen in South India.Poignant and surprising, Love, Loss, and What We Ate is Lakshmi’s extraordinary account of her journey from that humble kitchen, ruled by ferocious and unforgettable women, to the judges’ table of Top Chef and beyond. It chronicles the fierce devotion of the remarkable people who shaped her along the way, from her headstrong mother who flouted conservative Indian convention to make a life in New York, to her Brahmin grandfather—a brilliant engineer with an irrepressible sweet tooth—to the man seemingly wrong for her in every way who proved to be her truest ally. A memoir rich with sensual prose and punctuated with evocative recipes, it is alive with the scents, tastes, and textures of a life that spans complex geographies both internal and external.Love, Loss, and What We Ate is an intimate and unexpected story of food and family—both the ones we are born to and the ones we create—and their enduring legacies.
