Uganda is probably the best country to visit for access to African butterflies, with a wide range of habitats and a very pleasant climate all year round. The road network is good, providing access to accommodation that is clean, with good food and a warm welcome. This second edition has 70 colour plates, 14 more than the first edition, with 96 more photographs, covering 33 more species. All photographs were taken during five visits to Uganda, between 2016 and 2020, mostly, but not exclusively, in places that visitors will go to see other animals, such as birds, chimpanzees or gorillas. The major habitats can be roughly equally divided between savannah and forest, both of which are comfortable to walk in and offer a rich selection of butterflies, with about 1270 species on the list, about double what South Africa has to offer. We have provided a brief description of the places we would recommend but you will find butterflies everywhere in Uganda.
