Tales for Bedtime is a lovely collection of three beautifully illustrated tales for preschoolers.
The first story is a modern retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, where a young girl walks into the woods to visit her grandmother's house. When she arrives, her grandmother looks different, with big eyes and big teeth – because a wolf has locked Granny in the wardrobe and taken her place. But when the wolf reveals himself with a GRRR, a passing woodcutter chases it away.
The second story is Jack and the Beanstalk, where a young boy swaps a cow for some magic beans, which grow into a giant beanstalk. When Jack climbs the beanstalk, he finds himself in a giant's land. The Giant is rich and Jack and his mother are poor, so Jack steals a gold from the Giant. When the Giant begins to chase Jack, he has to chop down the beanstalk and the Giant is flung away to a faraway land.
The last story is The Ugly Duckling, where a grey duckling is born into a family of yellow ducklings, and is seen as ugly by other ducks – even though his mother and siblings stick up for him. One day, the duckling runs away and comes across a flock of swans. Over time, his body changes and he realises that he is a beautiful swan, too!
