Perspektief en profiel – ’n Afrikaanse literatuurgeskiedenis in drie dele (1998, 1999, 2006) is die enigste omvattende Afrikaanse literatuurgeskiedenis wat tans op die mark is. Honour in African History
This is the first published account of the role played by ideas of honour in African history from the fourteenth century to the present day. It argues that appreciation of these ideas is essential to an understanding of past and present African behaviour. Before European conquest, many African men cultivated heroic honour, others admired the civic virtues of the patriarchal householder, and women honoured one another for industry, endurance, and devotion to their families. These values both conflicted and blended with Islamic and Christian teachings. Colonial conquest fragmented heroic cultures, but inherited ideas of honour found new expression in regimental loyalty, respectability, professionalism, working-class masculinity, the changing gender relationships of the colonial order, and the nationalist movements which overthrew that order. We have the pleasure to present to you the proceedings of the XIVth congress of the "Association pour l'Etude Taxonomique de la Flore d'Afrique Tropicale" (AETFAT). The XIVth AETFAT congress was held from 22 to 27 August 1994, at the Wageningen International Conference Centre in Wageningen, The Netherlands. The congress was attended by 215 participants, 104 of which came from 28 African countries. During the congress 46 papers and more than 100 posters were presented, the texts of most of which are presented in these Proceedings. The expenses of the congress were covered by grants from the Wageningen Agri- cultural University, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, and others; see page XVI for a complete list. Memorials of Sir Francis Chantrey, R. A.
Originally published in 1851, partly with the aim of correcting certain mistakes in painter George Jones's 1849 tribute (also reissued in this series), this work commemorates Norton-born sculptor Sir Francis Chantrey (1781–1841), whose illustrious career began in nearby Sheffield. His most celebrated works include The Sleeping Children in Lichfield Cathedral, his statue of James Watt, and his busts of Sir Walter Scott and John Horne Tooke. An enthusiast for his country's art, Chantrey left a generous bequest to the Royal Academy which allowed for the purchase of numerous works of British art, now held by the Tate. The author John Holland (1794–1872), himself a Sheffield man, wrote with a passion for local history and topography. Here, his delight in the 'absolutely or comparatively trivial' lends a curious local slant to his delineation of the sculptor's background, entry into the profession, later working life and burial back in Norton.

Creation and Performance of Africa’s Security Architecture
The establishment of the African Union and its African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) in 2002 marked a fundamental transformation in how African states collectively address security challenges. This book examines the origins, institutional design, and early performance of APSA, revealing the political dynamics that shaped this landmark initiative in regional security governance.Drawing on extensive elite interviews with key decision-makers, such as former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and access to foreign policy documents, this study reconstructs how a coalition of states known as the Like-Minded Five (South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria, Ethiopia, and Mali) exercised disproportionate influence over the creation of APSA. The analysis traces the formation of state preferences, the negotiation process through which diverse visions were reconciled, and the relationship between institutional design choices and subsequent performance.
