Philip Myburgh was born on a farm in Muldersvlei into a bilingual home. His deep love for both his mother tongue - English, and that of his father - Afrikaans, can be traced back to his parents who read widely in both languages. It was in the early eighties, at Rondebosch Boys' High School that he started to write poetry. He was then navigating his teenage years and his country was in turmoil. It was through the medium of poetry that he attempted to make sense of both and so it has continued as he has traversed life as a husband, father, lawyer and farmer. His poems have a broad reach, touching on the different facets of his life such as his struggle with depression, his observations of everyday life and the beginnings of growing old.
