Growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Monique Misenga Ngoie Mukuna persevered through many challenges: political turmoil and violence, misogyny and patriarchy, lack of community resources and personal loss. Monique Misenga Ngoie Mukuna is a lay leader in the Presbyterian Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has served as a leader of women's ministries in her denomination and in national and international ecumenical bodies. She founded and leads a nonprofit organization that addresses systemic poverty and violence against women. Elsie Tshimunyi McKee is the Archibald Alexander Professor of Reformation Studies and the History of Worship at Princeton Theological Seminary. Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, she has written multiple books on the Reformation.
