Creating schools that are secure, safe, and peaceful is crucial if all pupils are going to benefit from their education. This is especially important for those who might be vulnerable, traumatised and unable to settle into normal school routine. Key to this whole process, though, are our teachers. Unless teachers feel secure, valued and peaceful in their classrooms, they will not be in a position to extend these key qualities to those they teach. Trained as a secondary English teacher, Kevin Street has over 25 years' experience of teaching in the UK. For the last 14 years he has been closely involved in all aspects of the education of Looked After Children, and led a team of teachers supporting their education. Kevin has also trained foster carers, residential workers, and LAC designated teachers in overcoming the educational problems faced by LAC.
