Overcoming Headache

This book describes hitherto unknown or underrepresented issues of headache disorders and aims to reduce misdiagnosis of patients with intractable or difficult headaches. New thoughts and insights into headache medicine, which may contribute to better practice and outcomes for headache patients, will be discussed. Visual aids such as brain MRI and/or MRA findings, medical illustrations, and spine X-ray images will be provided where necessary to support or confirm headache diagnoses.For the past few decades, there has been significant progress in the diagnosis and management of headache disorders, such as with Triptans and CGRP antagonists. However, such progress has been mostly focused on migraine rather than the broader headache field. In the real world, there are more headache patients without migraine. This book aims to support proper diagnosis and effective management of non-migraine headaches as well as migraine. It will contribute significantly to the field of headache studies and improve clinical practice.

Dr. Tae Gyu Lee graduated from the College of Medicine at Seoul National University. After completing his neurology residency, he pursued clinical fellowships at the Headache Center of the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and at the Neurovascular Laboratory under Professor R. H. Ackerman in the Radiology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. He later served as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Kyung Hee University Hospital in Seoul. Since his residency, Dr. Lee has authored many academic publications in the field of neurology and headache medicine. In 1999, he co-founded the Korean Headache Society with Dr. Jin S. Chung. In recognition of his contributions, the Society annually presents the "LTG (Lee Tae Gyu) Headache Research Award" in his honor. Dr. Lee has operated a large and well-established neurology clinic in Seoul, South Korea, for over 24 years. He has also served as a session chair at many national academic meetings in neurology and headache medicine. He served as President of the Korean Neurologists Association for two years. Dr. Lee received the Foreign Young Investigator Award from the American Academy of Neurology in 1994 and the Young Headache Researcher Award from the same organization in 1997.
