First off, I want to say that this title is so fitting! I asked myself what’s wrong with June more times than I can count while reading this book.
June is a Capetonian in her 40’s who just isn’t very happy with the life she’s living. She realised that her life revolves around everyone but her. She’s tired of trying to please everyone else and just needs time to figure out who she is.
June makes a vision board and realises that she’s missed out on so many things (she can’t even swim). She’s saved all this money but never actually spent it on something for herself. Realising that her life isn’t what she’d hoped, she hops on a plane to Mauritius.
While June is in Mauritius she learns so many new things about herself. She also starts trying new things. She gets to try dim sum and even takes swimming lessons! But are the small changes enough to make her happy?
This book made me feel all sorts of things. I realised that maybe I shouldn’t sit back and skip out on certain opportunities. Maybe I should go out with those friends, or go for that hike.
I highly, highly recommend this book! You won’t be sorry that you picked it up!
This is a fast-paced, action-packed book. I never wanted to put it down and Lee Child is such a good writer. You are included in the story, it's like watching a movie on paper. And if you can't get enough, don't worry there is a lot more where this came from! The books don't necessary follow each other so you can start with anyone. Also there is an amazing adaption of the book into a series 'Reacher' on Amazon Prime!
The book Foresight was given to me as a gift for signing up at the local library. Reading Foresight made me feel understood and reassured that my thought patterns are not boring or overactive but are heading in the right direction. I look forward to purchasing all publications by John Sanei to assist in refining my thought patterns and working towards my future goals. @John Sanie - Thank you for sharing your mind with the world.
Being the same age as the writer and growing up in the same area, the first few chapters took me straight back to my family home and I could virtually see and smell the sights and feelings he talks about. Wonderful story telling. From there, the book moves into adult life and growing up in apartheid South Africa as a white male and invites the reader to explore their own views and beliefs from that period. Inevitably, the book moves towards the "New South Africa" and into the post 1994 days, with it's highlights, hopes, euphoria and disappointments, problems and challenges.
This book is an easy read, but it is thought provoking in many ways and should be read by all South Africans, regardless of one's background.
I have read and own a lot of self-improvement books, this is the only one that has really propelled me into action. The short exercises in each chapter are well structured to enable you to learn about yourself and reasons behind your self-imposed limitations and gives great techniques and practical advise on how to overcome them, while also challenging you to think a lot about why you behave the way you do. I don't like writing in books usually - but this one is more of a workbook for myself now, so if you want to really give yourself a good shot at making some life changes - then this is the book for you.
